I will just say that we were astonished at the amount of water that was coming right out of the side of the canyon wall. We’ve posted about other places in the Thousand Springs State Park (Malad Gorge, Thousand Springs Scenic Byway), and this is the last one that we visited. And it was amazing. Stunning. Beautiful….

Malad Gorge State Park
Malad Gorge is part of the 1000 Springs State Park in Idaho. This State Park has five different units in different areas, all related to a porous rock formation that allows water to be carried underground, often exiting from the rock formation high up on canyon walls. One area that shows that distinctly is the Thousand Springs Scenic Byway. Malad Gorge is another.

Massacre Rocks State Park and Register Rock
Among the State Parks we visited in Idaho was Massacre Rocks State Park. This State Park is located right along I-86 and has a number of interesting features. The park sits right next to the Snake River, has miles of hiking trails, a campground, a world class disc golf course, fishing, a swimming beach, and access to Oregon Trail wagon ruts. It would be an interesting place to stop and get some exercise playing their disc golf course or walking to the Oregon Trail Ruts…
Massacre Rocks State Park
As we traveled through Idaho, we took some time to visit some of the Idaho State Parks. Massacre Rocks State Park and the accompanying Register Rock is right along I-86, ten miles west of American Falls. While it was plenty hot the day that we visited (late July 2013), in cooler times it would make a fun place to stop and take a break if you are traveling along I-86 in Idaho….
