Visit State Parks During the Shutdown

Niagara SpringsI know that everyone is ticked that they can’t go our National Parks while the shutdown is in place.  I’m with you and I can’t imagine how frustrating it might be to have had a vacation planned where you were going to visit a favorite park or a park that you had never been too.  I hope they get this resolved so that OUR National Parks and Monuments will be open again.

However….In the meantime, there are hidden gems among the State Parks and I highly encourage you to visit your State Parks while you can’t get to the National Parks.  Every state has them and they range from historic places to recreational locations to parks with fabulous views and lots to see and do.  You might just find a new favorite.  And the good news is that they usually aren’t very crowded.

Last summer, Sue and I visited quite a number of State Parks in Montana and some in Idaho.  Ranging from the First People Buffalo Jump to Giant Springs to Pictograph Cave to Niagara Springs in the Thousand Springs State Park, and many others, we had a great time visiting all these parks.  There are some AMAZING places and definitely worth your visit.

Here are links to the State Park websites for all the Western states:

Washington State Parks

Oregon State Parks

California State Parks

Arizona State Parks

New Mexico State Parks

Colorado State Parks

Wyoming State Parks

Montana State Parks

Idaho State Parks

Nevada State Parks

Utah State Parks

Take some time during the shutdown to check out your local State Parks!
